Le Trail Pacific Energy: Running for Passion, Community, and a Healthier Future

In 2018, a trail running event unlike any other took root on the vibrant island of Efate, Vanuatu. What started as a small race organized by Didier Maucotel and Lycée Français Le Clézio de Port Vila soon blossomed into a movement that would inspire runners from around the world. Today, Le Trail Pacific Energy is more than just an annual race; it’s a testament to the power of passion, community, and perseverance.

From its humble beginnings, Le Trail Pacific Energy has been a beacon for those who seek to challenge themselves, embrace nature, and share in the spirit of camaraderie. With events ranging from the Family Race, where runners of all ages and abilities participate, to the Challenger Race and the Elite Race, designed for those ready to push their limits, the event welcomes everyone. Whether it’s families running together for fun or elite athletes conquering rugged trails, the joy and spirit of adventure unite all who take part.

A Race Across the Island

In 2023, we took a bold leap forward, organizing the first-ever trail running event that spanned the entire island of Efate. Covering approximately 35 kilometers of diverse terrain, the event challenged runners in new ways. It wasn’t just a race against the clock, but a journey through the heart of Vanuatu’s stunning landscapes—an experience that connected participants to the land and each other.

It was no small feat to organize such an event, and the road was not without obstacles. Yet, through determination and the collective effort of the community, we made it happen. The runners who participated didn’t just complete a race; they became part of something bigger—a shared experience of growth, resilience, and joy.

A Global Community

As Le Trail Pacific Energy grew, so did its reach. What once started as a local event soon captured the hearts of runners far beyond Vanuatu. In recent years, we’ve seen participants travel from Europe, America, Asia, and across the Pacific region, drawn to the beauty of our island and the unique challenge our trails offer. This international interest was a powerful reminder that the spirit of trail running knows no borders. It is a universal language that brings people together.

Recognizing the growing demand, we introduced the Run Pacific Energy series in 2023, implementing a ranking system that spans all our events throughout the year. This expansion not only elevated the competition but also gave participants something more to strive for—a way to track their progress and be part of a broader journey.

A Celebration of Community and Health

At its core, Le Trail Pacific Energy is more than a competition. It’s a celebration of community. Every year, locals and visitors alike gather to run, cheer, and support one another, creating a positive environment that transcends the finish line. The event fosters a spirit of unity and reinforces the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. It’s a reminder that running isn’t just about physical endurance—it’s about strengthening the bonds that hold us together as a community.

For the people of Vanuatu, Le Trail Pacific Energy has become a symbol of pride. It’s a reminder that we are capable of great things when we come together, and that every step we take—whether on a race course or in life—brings us closer to becoming the best versions of ourselves.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to grow, we are deeply grateful for the support of our community, both local and global. With every race, we learn, improve, and innovate, driven by the love of trail running and the desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those who participate.

Le Trail Pacific Energy will always be a place where runners—whether seasoned athletes or first-timers—can push their limits, experience the beauty of Vanuatu, and be part of something truly special. We look forward to what the future holds, as we continue to inspire, connect, and build a healthier, more active community—one race at a time.

Join us on this journey. Let’s run together, for the love of trail running, for the community, and for the future.
